Important Information
If you apply for a NIF in Portugal and do not have a residence in the country, the European Union (EU), or the European Economic Community (EEC), you will need to have a “Tax Representative” (Representante Fiscal) who has a valid address and NIF in Portugal to act on your behalf.
How to Contact a Representante Fiscal in Portugal?
When we were applying for ours, we contacted a tax representative through Anchorless.io. You will have to fill out a form and deliver copies of the documents mentioned above, a photocopy of your passport, and sign some documents digitally.
In 2023, the representative cost 50€ per NIF, but now the price is around 99€, apparently due to high demand. However, the aplication for the NIF is free, remember that only non-residents from third countries need to hire a tax representative.

Obtaining a NIF in Portugal is definitely an important step if you want to apply for a visa that requires a bank account in the country, such as the D7 or D2 visa.
